The Surrey SATRO Festival of Science and Engineering takes place every June at the Brooklands Museum in

In 2009 schools from all over Surrey worked with a range of companies including BOC, Siemens and Mouchel to produce some very innovative and marketable ideas.  One of the main focuses of the Festival is to demonstrate how science, technology, engineering and maths transfer to the workplace.  

How can employers get involved with the Science Festival?

Based on last year’s success, we will be expanding this area and would welcome exhibits from anyone wishing to exhibit for FREE in the interactive CBSbutler- sponsored ‘Working World’ marquee.

When is the festival and is there a cost to exhibit?

This year’s Festival takes place on Thursday 24th June.   There is no cost to exhibit, all that we ask is that your display is hands-on and your representatives are happy to answer questions from students and visitors alike.

Who is exhibiting......

	Oculas will be showcasing their Ovei Pod which allows you to create your own space in the real world.  An interactive pod where you can choose from: relaxing, gaming, meeting, creating and learning.
	Are you inspired by spectacular engineering feats? Then come along and see how Balfour Beatty are building the UK’s longest under land road tunnel.  Works are currently underway on a 1.9km twin-bore tunnel, taking the existing A3 road under the Devil’s Punch Bowl Site of Special Scientific Interest in Hindhead, Surrey. Ask our engineers about working on this iconic project, how we look after and enhance the local wildlife, and what we do to be good neighbours. 	A passion for digital photography and radio-controlled modelling resulted in Horizon Imaging's invention of a low-altitude aerial-photography service using a radio-controlled helicopter and a 50ft telescopic mast.  Prepare to be wow-ed, but mind your head!
	Institute of Civil Engineers Without Civil Engineers your home would have no water, electricity or gas and your toilet wouldn’t flush. You wouldn’t be able to drive to school, fly off on holiday, or catch the train to meet friends. Imagine your world without all this! Come and visit the Institution of Civil Engineers who will challenge you to be a Civil Engineer and work as a team to design and build a Helipad using just paper and clips. Test your helipad by checking its strength and landing a micro helicopter on it.
	How could you operate a wheelchair using only your chin? How can you press the pedals on a piano if you are paralysed below the waist? How can you climb into a car if you can’t bend your knees? These are just some of the problems posed to MERU’s engineers and volunteers by the children and young people that we serve. MERU will be exhibiting some of their tailor-made products.
	University of Surrey Custard monsters – exploring the very strange world of non-Newtonian fluids and how to build the best sand castles and test them to destruction.
	NPL is a science institute in Teddington which measures just about everything.   They’ll be showing just how crazy measurement can be – their ‘Dolls of Confusion’ will baffle conventional thinkers.
	Johnston Sweepers is a world leading manufacturer of outdoor surface cleansing equipment.  Stop by us to see how road sweeping equipment works and how engineering and innovation has been used to develop these machines.
	NDS - 3D TV including display and subtitling with solutions that not only look great but also consider the challenges of having 3D TV in your home. Oona -  an intuitive and integrated user interface that introduces contextual applications and social interaction on your TV.
	Kingston University.  One of the world’s fastest green racing vehicles will be on display having just competed in the first zero-emissions Grand Prix in the Isle of Man.  Kingston University’s battery powered electric motorbike can reach speeds of up to 102 mph..
	Earlex will be demonstrating new spray paint technology.  DIY will never be the same again! Come and see the live demonstrations and understand the development of the Expert Spray Gun and new turbine.
	SEPnet (South East Physics Network)  Forget the dancing, you have to get on the bike and pedal to power the music and lights at the SEPnet disco!
	Surrey Satellite Technology Ltd Right in the heart of Surrey at SSTL space hardware is being designed and built.  Come and get some information on how to get into the space industry – ever wanted to be an astronaut?
	Lucis College/Holistic Harmony Community Interest Company Come along and talk to experts from the field of Complementary Therapies and experience Indian Head Massage as well as learn more about how to become a Complementary Therapist. Anyone working in the Complementary Therapy industry is now required to gain a qualification in Anatomy and Physiology so that they can incorporate physical responses to their treatments as well as understand contra-indications.

	96.4 Eagle Radio Podcasting Station is here.  This is your chance to use the very latest in portable broadcasting and editing equipment to create an audio podcast about you, your school, your favourite team or whatever you want to podcast.  After recording your podcast, our team will show you how to edit it and then take a copy away with you on CD or onto your mp3 player.
	McLaren Automotive - Powertrain. Sit in the Mercendes Benz SLR McLaren supercar and imagine what it might be like to be involved in building and designing a £300,000 speed machine for a living!
