Scottish business confidence provides job boom

14 Mar 14  | Business Support |  Recruitment News

Business confidence across Scotland is at a "new high", contributing to a significant rise in permanent job vacancies, reports.

Two new studies, one undertaken by the Bank of Scotland and another by BDO LLP, jointly show huge confidence in the Scottish market.

BDO LLP's study shows increases in business optimism, with its index rocketing over the past year. Back in January 2013 many businesses expected their fortunes to improve over the coming six months - eventually posting a score of 88.9. Fast forward to January 2014 and the index score has soared to 103.8. This also takes scores above the fabled 95.0 boundary which indicates the tipping point between growth and contraction.

The Bank of Scotland, meanwhile, reports that both permanent and temporary job levels increased towards the end of 2013. In fact, the number of permanent jobs is rising at its fastest rate since April 2006.

With the number of new positions on the rise, competition for each job has also dropped, with vacancies now attracting fewer applicants than during the recession.

Commenting further, chief economist at the Bank of Scotland, Donald MacRae, tells "January showed a further marked improvement in Scotland's labour market returning the barometer to the pre-crisis levels of 2007.

"The recovery in the Scottish economy is not only continuing but is strengthening as we enter 2014."

The more the likes of Max Hastings says daft things like we are pnyiag for the Scots and their free care for the elderly and free university places for Scottish young people, the faster we speed towards Max Hastings having an England free of the yoke of us Scots. I will be helping free England by voting for Scottish Independence.

Hopefully Scotland seceeds leivnag England and Wales to continue their spending and debt addiction whilst it forges on to become a vibrant and free nation.I also hope Western Australia seceeds from the rest of Australia, much like England taxing Scotland's oil the eastern states in Australia are addicted to deficit spending and keep themselves alive only through pillaging the mineral wealth of WA.
