SELEX Systems Integration Ltd employs circa 5000 employees worldwide and are a world class provider of integrated communications solutions to professional, civil and military customers for the protection of communities and critical national infrastructure. SELEX’s recruitment is such that they look for people passionate about topics related to electronic engineering, telecommunications and security.
The challenge
CBSbutler had been working with SELEX since 2006. With no core behaviours being used to measure candidates against for recruitment or retention purposes, the SELEX interview process focused mainly on technical competencies with very little or no emphasis on behavioural or motivational fit. This resulted in unsuitable candidates being selected, different selection processes being used by various hiring managers or candidates withdrawing from the process
The solution
* CBSbutler’s proposal was to provide on-site competency based interview training for their primary Hiring Managers. The interactive workshop demonstrated how to structure an interview using both technical and behavioural questions, crucial recruitment/selection legislation and how to use competencies for assessment and development purposes.
CBSbutler’s solution resulted in:
* Primary Hiring Managers being able to conduct competency based interviews and appraisals using a fair and consistent proces
* Adherence to current legislation
* Selection/assessment material organised into an efficient, streamlined system.
* SELEX delegates were confident their newly learned skills would help them improve time to hire - reducing recruitment and retention costs and improve candidate experience.
““The course highlighted the risks which could be eliminated in the business by using competency interviewing, so the benefits of CBI were easy to see. It was really practical and the role play allowed us to practise in a safe environment. Most importantly, the course and material was of a sufficient standard that if tomorrow a set of interview questions were needed we could go straight to what we have put together through the training”
