This is an excellent opportunity for an individual with good communications skills and an understanding of the structure and operation of government bodies to work in a challenging, interesting and varied role. The role demands the ability to work as part of a team and act as ambassador, presenter and spokesperson for the company.

Responsibilities

As the External Affairs Manager you will assist in coordinating the company's interaction with key political influencers; managing the day-to-day relationships with the Welsh Government and providing political intelligence in line with business objectives. You will assist in developing a coordinated and consistent relationship with the Welsh Government, and developing relationships to help execute strategies to win profitable business for company in order to contribute to their projected growth plans over the next five years. You may also be required to contribute to the Company's interactions around Whitehall.

You will also have responsibility for external marketing communications activity, including events management, local media relations and a wide range of relevant social media initiatives. You will implement and deliver a real-time communications policy through all relevant media channels to ensure stakeholders are kept informed and a positive PR and branding message is in place for the company at all times.

You will be able to demonstrate strong communications skills with evidence of your personal contribution to internal / external stakeholder engagement. Knowledge of the most modern electronic media communication campaigns and methodologies is essential alongside strong written and verbal communication skills. You must be able to adapt quickly, be proactive and reactive, and able to work under pressure to meet tight deadlines.

General duties include:
*Coordinating the Company's interactions with public sector interlocutors (political and civil service) and the provision of advice and guidance to assist in achieving Company objectives
*Managing internal and external stakeholder communication
*Assisting in the management and planning of VIP visits and events
*Assisting in the production of briefing material

Education/Experience
Essential

*Current detailed understanding of the structure and function of the Welsh Government
*Knowledge of Welsh Government support mechanisms
*Ability to establish and nurture strong relationships at senior level
*Excellent communication skills across a wide range of media
*Degree educated or equivalent
*Presentable - able to act as an ambassador for the company
*Strategic thinking
*Excellent interpersonal skills able to engage/influence at different levels within the organisation
*Confidence, empathy and gravitas to build strong relationships - government, social, or commercial Enthusiasm, energy and drive - the ability to make things happen
*Excellent communication skills, oral and written
*Organised and disciplined toward meeting deadlines
*Eligible for relevant security clearance

Desirable

*Knowledge of the structure and function of the UK Government
*Existing relationships with Private Offices of ministers and government officials
*Understanding of the defence and security sectors; competitors etc
*Ability to negotiate, influence and manage senior personalities
*Experience of event management
*Political/Media awareness
*Commercial awareness

*Knowledge of relevant government legislation (Bribery Act, FCPA, FOI etc)
*Welsh language
*Foreign language
*Understanding of Welsh political constituencies
