Hardware Design Engineer £40,000-£45,000 - Basildon

Job Description:

To work as part of the product development team producing new designs and improving existing designs of a range of display, video, processing and man machine interface applications. You will combine skills in analogue and digital electronics, ideally in connection with signal, video or image processing for surveillance and command and control markets. As a COTS Industrial commercial and military supplier, our client's products are low volume and specialized and ownership of a product from requirements through to manufacture and onto the customer is a key part of the role.

Position Responsibilities:

Convert new product requirements into hardware designs, typically requiring the design or modification of electronic circuits, PCB designs and use of programmable logic.
Prototyping of new circuits and working closely with software engineers to debug new boards.
Rigorous testing and validation of new designs, including qualification of products (EMC testing for example) and assisting in the transition of products to production.
Component and technology selection to best meet the needs of new products and the product roadmap.
Hands-on designing, building and testing new product.
Ability to interpret requirements and develop high-quality products on time. This will include input into planning and cost estimation.
Develop and maintain expert knowledge on exiting designs to assist Technical Support and the production team.

Essential Skills and Experience:

Proven experience with mixed analogue/digital board development.
Proven experience with video, graphics or image processing and compression
Experience of high-speed digital signal integrity techniques (1Gbit/sec +)
Experience of using FPGA's or similar programmable logic
Knowledge of serial interconnect busses (particularly CAN, I2C)
Proven experience in Design for EMC
Proven experience of Design for Test in low volume contract manufacturing.

Desirable Skills and Experience:

PCB Layout
Embedded programming in C or Visual Basic
Proven experience with Avionics quality procedures (AS9100, Def Stan 05-123)
Proven experience in Environmental testing


Minimum Education requirements:
HNC/HND or Degree in electronic based engineering-based subject or related discipline.
