Materials R&D Scientist - Armour


A well established research and development company with a specialist interest in armour technology is seeking a graduate engineer or scientist to join their R&D team. You will primarily be working in the development of advanced materials for armour applications in areas such as military and commercial vehicles, protective clothing and containment systems for hazardous industrial environments.

Position:
+ Responsible to the Survivability Lead to work within the Engineering and Technology team to research, develop and optimise armour systems in line with Company goals.

+ You will be part of a small Research and Development team within Engineering and Technology and will become an expert in armour system characteristics, the effect of ballistic impact, ballistic test procedures and armour system bulk properties.

+ They will act as a technical focus for internal armour system design, able to generate, store, retrieve and present data for protection requirements. Also the candidate will ultimately understand armour material properties, traceability and the need for accurate requirements capture.

+ Interaction with technical colleagues in our European facilities will be expected, and occasional travel to the Netherlands, Denmark and France may be required (although English is the language used).

+ Specialist training will be given in specialist areas throughout the first year of employment.


Responsibilities:

+ Undertake Engineering and Technology projects and report progress to the Survivability Lead.
+ Develop and design armour systems based on international standards and customer requirements.
+ Conduct ballistic and blast trials to develop and validate armour systems.
+ Liaise with customers to extract detailed and deliverable requirements.
+ Attend seminars and conferences to keep up to date with current developments and promote the company.

Education
Applicants are expected to have a good degree, Masters or PhD in a suitable subject matter such as Materials Science, Forensics, Ballistics or Mechanical Engineering
