Project Engineer
Location: Derby, Derbyshire
Duration: 12 months
Our client client require five Project Engineers for long term contracts in Derby.
These are key roles for the application migration Programme. The COTS Applications Project Engineer will:
* Work under the direction of the Project Lead Engineer for Business COTS Applications migration
* Perform most of the hands-on migration tasks, such as application software installations and data migration.
* Contribute expertise in a broad range of IT solutions spanning applications, databases, operating systems, networks, security, testing, performance etc.
* Understand how each application will be deployed into the target infrastructure environment, including the integration with OS and DBMS services, storage, networks, other applications etc.
* Ensure that technical and quality standards are maintained.
Skills and Experience
The successful candidate must have demonstrable experience in the large-scale deployment or migration of COTS applications for global corporations, and a broad range of IT skills covering a variety of technology areas.
Must-Have skills, experience and personal characteristics include:
* Hands-on experience of client-server COTS application deployment.
* Windows or UNIX server operating systems (ideally both).
*TCP/IP network technologies, including load-balancing and firewalls.
* Communication, both verbal and written, to technical and non-technical audiences
* System integration
* Problem solving and root-cause analysis, including coordination across multiple technical disciplines.
* Functional and non-functional testing.
* System performance analysis and tuning.
* IT security, including user authentication / authorisation, risk assessments and countermeasures.
* Understanding of all IT project life-cycle stages, including Design, Implementation and Support.
* Ability to work under pressure for extended periods of time.
* Ability to interface effectively with senior leaders
* Ability to work effectively within a team.
Highly Desirable skills and experience:
* Application development and debugging.
* DBMS, Web Application Server and Middleware platforms, especially Oracle / SQL Server, WebLogic Server / Tomcat and WebSphere MQ.
* Client platforms and supporting technologies, especially Microsoft Windows and Active Directory.
* Supporting technologies such as DHCP, DNS, NIS, NFS.
* Virtual server platforms.
* Understanding of Project management.
* High Availability (e.g. clustering) and Business Continuity.
* Operational monitoring and systems management solutions.
* ITIL.
* Specific experience with any of the following COTS applications:
o Siemens Teamcenter
o Siemens SIMATIC
o EMC Documentum
o PTC Optegra
