Software Engineers and Software Technical Lead Engineers required for technology and innovation leader specialising in defence, national security, and other government and commercial markets around the world. Key markets include Mission Systems Integration, Border Security, Network-Enabled Capabilities, Mission Support and Global Training Solutions.
As a trusted partner to the UK Ministry of Defence, our client designs, develops and manufactures a range of high technology electronic systems and software at its facilities in England, Scotland and Wales. It also is a major technology exporter to more than 40 countries, including the US.
The Defence Targeting Toolset (DTT) programme is a major element in to my clients strategic development into the C2 business area. DTT is an n-tier, distributed application, built around the principals of Service Oriented Architecture (SOA). It is expected to comprise of 100+ user screens and 10+ business services.
The technical leads will work closely with the Software Design Authority and Solution Architect, gaining an understanding of the high level design and software requirements. The technical leads will perform low level design, utilising their deep understanding of the principals of OO design and design patterns.
The technical leads will implement code, meeting agreed standards, using aspects of Test Driven Development (TDD) to ensure quality and test coverage is achieved. Once coding is complete, the technical lead will support the review, test, integration and sell-off activities of the component, as well as producing appropriate documentation.
Review cycles will be held both internally (peer review) and externally with the customer to present designs, code and prototypes where necessary.
The J2EE Technical Lead will:
*Design, Code and Unit test software components.
*Employ best practice OO design using UML to perform low level design with adherence to the software architecture.
*Demonstrate excellence in technical design and implementation.
*Act as a mentor for team members
*Support the Integration, Test and Sell-Off of components.
*Attend formal project meetings and reviews.
*Work collaboratively within the team sharing ideas and experience with other members
*Produce and maintain the technical content of documentation.
*Have a broad understanding of SOA, J2EE and appropriate technologies.
*Be focussed on delivery timescales, highlighting risks and slippages appropriately.
*Demonstrate communication skills in both technical and non-technical disciplines.
Required Skills:
*Degree in a Scientific or Engineering discipline.
*Excellent core Java skills.
*Strong experience in a dynamic J2EE development environment.
*Proven OO design skills, implementing established design patterns and best practice.
*Proficient in UML 2.0 to describe design and model technical solutions.
*Experience with at least three of the following: Spring, Hibernate, Web Services (REST/SOAP), GWT, Swing, JUnit.
*Experience of the following is desirable: JBoss AS, JBoss ESB, Maven, Test Complete, Oracle or SQL Server, ClearCase.
*An understanding of the SOA principals of loose coupling, Enterprise Service Bus and Web Services.
*Excellent communication skills with the ability to present technical detail in an appropriate format.
*Experience in Integration and Test of Large Software Intensive Programmes preferable.
