A Leading Defence company, renowned for the design and manufacture of nuclear warheads, are seeking a Systems Engineer, to work on the pyrotechnics within a warhead. Responsible for defining and delivering the technical aspects of warheads, and lethality related aspects, on development and research activities.
Accountabilities:
* Provide technical support to various Lethal Package (Warhead & Safe Arm Unit) programmes and research, particularly for weapons against ground targets.
* Reporting to Project Chief Design Engineer, Task Manager, and Head of Lethality & Warheads Function.
* Responsible for estimating, planning, leading and reporting studies of warhead requirements, design, performance, etc on research concepts and development programmes
* Work closely with project systems and design teams, to provide or review technical documents for requirements, specifications, etc. to meet project objectives.
* Address Safety, Insensitive Munitions, Proving requirements
* Close liaison with MoD technical expertise, Research agencies and Warhead/SAU manufacturers.
* Conduct warhead concept designs, vulnerability analyses of targets, and performance studies, including rapid responses, based on expert judgement for initial concepts and Capability Analysis modelling.
* Lead lethality studies to provide contributions to project performance statements, to enhance and optimise weapon lethality performance.
* Prepare and give seminars/presentations to promote Lethality & Warhead Group capabilities to external and internal customers.
Experience/Skills:
Educated to degree level or equivalent, and with significant practical experience of engineering within the lethality and warheads domain or a related defence sector.
Specialist knowledge of warhead design, warhead qualification programmes, warhead trials, explosives, etc.
Significant knowledge of safety and arming systems, design and safety procedures
Understanding of project and budget management, and proven ability to work to tight deadlines, within financial and technical constraints.
Practised in Systems Engineering approach to overall tasks and problem resolution
Examples of liaison with external sub-contractors and MoD on major development and research programmes
Experience with Safety, Insensitive Munitions requirements/procedures and proving.
Understanding of the product lifecycle for defence equipment
Good knowledge of defence standards and specifications applicable to the domain
Wide knowledge of weaponry, threat systems and the armed forces.
Broad knowledge of engineering disciplines.
Good interpersonal and communication skills, verbal and written, and understanding of cultural sensitivity
Ability to travel toEuropeon regular basis
