A Summer of Charity at CBSbutler

A Summer of Charity at CBSbutler

It has been a summer of good works for the staff at CBSbutler, with no less than four major charity events in recent months, raising funds for a variety of great causes.

Nepalese Lunch & Quake Bake

After the tragic earthquakes in Nepal earlier this year, staff at CBSbutler enjoyed a traditional Nepalese lunch in May to raise funds for the aid appeal, managing an impressive £700. This is a cause particularly close to our hearts as a member of the extended CBSbutler family is Nepali, and we were glad to be able to show our support in such a tasty manner.

Shortly afterwards, members of the CBSbutler Support Team rallied together to host another event in the form of a ‘Quake Bake’, selling delicious homemade cupcakes, brownies and sponges to raise an additional £120 for the earthquake appeal.
In addition, one of our Senior Directors showed his true, and very generous, colours by donating an incredible £3000 from his own pocket.
In total, a massive £3820 was raised for the Earthquake Appeal.

APSCo Recruitment Challenge Cup

Then, on the 14th of June, 6 of our own took part in the APSCo Recruitment Challenge Cup, a good-natured football tournament, where the CBSbutler team made it through to the semi-finals, despite the unfortunate loss of two players to injury early in the day.

APSCo supports many causes, chief among them ChildLine, and the CBSbutler team were proud to be a part of such a worthwhile event.

“Thoroughly enjoyable: it was great playing against other agencies and making it through to the semi-finals made for a brilliant day all round.”

“The day was full of competitive recruiters letting off steam. Big tackles, some good footballers and some great goals. A great day; a beer and a burger later and everyone was happy. Same again next year.

London - Brighton Bike Ride

June proved a busy month for some, as 8 members of staff at CBSbutler supported
the fortieth year of the London-Brighton charity bicycle race on the 21st, jumping on their bikes and pedalling hard to raise just over £3,500 for the British Heart Foundation. One of our staff even completed the ride on one of the infamous 'Boris Bikes', to much amusement.

“A really enjoyable experience; it pushed us all to our limits!”

“Felt great to complete the challenge and raise money for a worthwhile cause.”

The Midnight Plod

Finally, on July 17th, 8 staff members participated in ‘The Plod’, a gruelling 40 mile midnight hike across the South Downs that pushes participants to their limits, covers everyone in mud and produces groans and laughter in equal shares – all in the name of a good cause!

Our ‘Plodders’ split into two teams of four for the hike, with one team completing the tough 20miles and raising an impressive £1441, and the second completing the entire exhausting 40 miles from Devil's Dyke to Beachy Head, raising a whopping £1645.

Funds raised by the Plodders' hard work were donated to Action Medical Research for Children, a fantastic cause which works to save and improve childrens' lives through medical research. Action has been supporting and funding medical breakthroughs for children since 1952, including such life-saving innovations as ultrasound scans in pregnancy and the first polio vaccines in the UK.

Both teams had a fantastic time and found the experience incredibly rewarding.

“It was hard work but worth every minute to see the sun rising over some amazing views and cannot wait to do it again next year.”

“It was definitely a challenge! Painful at times, but certainly an enjoyable one with spectacular views along the way. The sense of achievement when we finished at Beachy Head was huge.”

“After 5 hours in pitch black the sunrise was hugely appreciated and spectacular to watch. Made it all worth it!”

"A walk in the park!"

It has been a fantastic summer, and the CBSbutler team is proud to have been a part of so many important and worthy causes, raising a grand total in excess of £12000 for charitable initiatives.
