Paris 3-2-1

Paris 3-2-1
From Redhill, in the leafy 'burbs of Surrey, to Paris - to most of us, that’s a flight, or at the least it’s a couple of hours’ drive, followed by a train or ferry, and then a few more hours’ driving. To eight of our consultants here at CBSbutler, however, it's nothing more than a weekend bike ride.

On the 2nd June, eight bold and determined CBSbutler staff will set out from Redhill with the intention of cycling 184 miles over the next three days to arrive, triumphantly, at the Eiffel Tower. They ride in aid of YMCA East Surrey, who hope to use the funds raised from the event to build a brand new "disability sports, fitness and wellbeing facility, designed to inspire and support people of all ages and ability to be more active and healthy."

The YMCA East Surrey is 'a vibrant, local charity that has been responding to the needs of individuals and communities since 1871. [They] help people to believe in themselves, support them to achieve their goals and inspire them to be the best they can be'.

The name of the event, Paris 3-2-1, alludes to the three options available to participants: they can make the bicycle journey in three different time frames - one, two or three days. All of the CBSbutler cyclists will be taking the three day option, which allows for a bit more of an enjoyable experience than a mad one-day dash across the Channel!

Leaving from the YMCA at 11am on Thursday 2nd June, our cyclists will start their journey with a 40mile slog to Newhaven, with a pit-stop for tea at Lindfield. They'll spend the night in a local hotel and the next day, will head to the ferry port for the crossing to Dieppe. Upon arrival at Dieppe, the ride's support team will be ready to load the cyclists up with water and snacks, and then it's off to Gournay en-Bray, where they'll spend the night at the 'authentic' Hotel Le St Aubin, enjoying a traditional French dinner and a much-needed night's rest. After a hearty breakfast the next morning, the final day of cycling will begin, through 'the beautiful, tranquil and traffic-free French countryside', cycling along the Seine before the final approach through Paris to the Eiffel Tower. After a night of much celebration of their achievement, and a leisurely morning's sightseeing, the Eurostar will make the journey home a lot less arduous, and our newly accomplished fundraisers will arrive home in London late on Sunday afternoon.

"Recruiting to the Social Care sector, which is of course an industry based around helping people, I am always looking for charity events to get involved in. YMCA in Redhill is a fantastic charity local to CBSbutler, and I originally contacted them after coming across their Challenge Events page and becoming interested in their Sky Dive. Little did I know that a month later, I would be attending an open event to find out more. I ended up signing up not only to do the SkyDive, but also to cycling to Paris in 3 days - and then I roped in 7 colleagues!

I only got a bike a few weeks ago, so was relying on the regular Spin class at the gym until then for preparation. It has to be said that I’m a little nervous as I haven’t cycled outside for a good 10 years!
So yes - nervous, but excited too! It will be a great achievement… As long as I can get through it alive!"
- Chloe Daniell, Recruitment Consultant, Social Care Team at CBSbutler

"I'm so excited to take on this challenge and raise some money for a truly fantastic cause!"
-  Isobel Salino, Senior Resourcer, Defence & Engineering Team at CBSbutler
"I'm thoroughly looking forward to our Redhill to Paris charity bike ride. It's a big challenge and all for a worthy cause.

It's been great fun watching the pounds on the scales go down and the pounds in sponsorship go up during our months of training - which will all be worth it when we get to hand over a large cheque to the YMCA."
- Antonio King, IT Manager at CBSbutler
"This is by far my biggest challenge to date - I'm feeling excited, nervous and proud all rolled into one!

I'm excited because I just cannot wait to take in all the views; get to Paris; take part in a fantastic challenge and of course, raise money for a great cause.

I'm nervous as I'm desperately hoping I'm fit enough, and I'm proud of all of us for signing up to this crazy challenge in the first place - and for being part of such a great team. GO CBSbutler!"
- Edina Boorman, Administration Assistant at CBSbutler
