Assistant Project Manager

As a Junior Project Manager you will be defining, planning small to medium size contracts or packages of larger contracts for a global Aerospace and Defence organisation within the Electronic Communication and Counter Operations IPTs, against the business plan targets through application of project management processes.

Manage stakeholder interfaces, including customers, where appropriate and ensure accurate reporting of progress against all aspects of contract performance.

The role may also involve activities related to the winning of new and follow-on business

Key Responsibility Areas

Implement effective project management processes, tools and reporting mechanisms on achievement of programme and budgets.

  • Set up and facilitate business rhythm meetings and act as secretary for all customer meetings producing minutes and actions

  • Define and maintain the Project Management Plan

  • Production and issuing customer progress reports

Monitor and control of all activities and costs, defining and implementing corrective actions

  • Manage and control contract estimate cost at completion and cash flow, maximising margin and agreeing margin adjustment criteria. Generation of the CSR.

  • Ensure that contract budgets are planned, loaded and controlled in accordance with the defined management plans

Maintain accountability for the cost, schedule and technical performance of the programme. Anticipate and manage dependencies, risk and opportunities in support of increase business performance.

  • Schedule maintenance and adherence including milestone tracking metrics, critical path analysis

  • Ensure robust workload forecasts are available for the project and that these are in line with the project schedule.

Conduct effective risk and opportunity management, ensuring all risks and opportunities are recorded, managed and tracked.

  • Where mitigation activities are required, ensure that adequate support is provided to ensure they are undertaken.

  • Prepare and maintain contract risk and opportunity plans and manage the associate contingency budgets.

Develop and maintain key relationships with the customer and other external agencies.

  • Generation and maintenance of the communication and stakeholder management plan

  • Day to day customer point of contact for programme and technical enquiries

Ensure that all export regulations are understood by the IPT and adhered to, also that compliance can be demonstrated.

  • Maintenance and management of the Security Aspect Letter

  • Ensure all personnel, including suppliers have the appropriate security clearance to undertake activities at the customer facilities

  • Obtain the relevant export licences required for the project

Work as part of the bid team with sales and business development in winning new domestic contracts.

Skills, Qualifications & Knowledge Required

Required Skills:

  • Project and risk management skills and knowledge

  • Sound business judgement

  • Strong communication and motivational skills

  • Management experience covering financial, commercial, engineering and project areas

  • Working knowledge of MS Project

  • The ability to quickly pick up new tool sets and processes, with good analytical skills

  • Ability to analyse schedule and cost data for impending difficulties and clearly communicate to the Project Manager/Programme Manage.

  • Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills.

Desired skills:

  • Working knowledge of and experience in SAP cost planning & reporting

  • Experience in the development, maintenance and control of event driven Integrated Master
