Our client is an established building controls / energy company in the UK and they are currently looking for a Senior Quantity Surveyor or Commercial Manager with a strong financial and commercial background to join thier team. You'll be responsible for the successful commercial management of commercially technical projects in the Northern region. You'll work closely with the operations teams to create a competitive supply chain and seek continual improvements. In addition to this, you'll also work with our delivery team, ensuring that we are allocating the right installer to the right jobs, recovering costs and making improvements throughout the operational teams.

Job Description

The Commercial Manager role has responsibility for pre, in-life and post contract support for the four northern offices and National Account Teams, and shall have a number of key deliverables, including but not limited to the following:

  • Seek new suppliers and contractors to continually improve the commercial competitiveness and delivery capability.
  • Support the sales, design and delivery teams in the preparation of tenders relating to the commercial factors of the project.
  • Support the pre-order team with commercial side contract negotiation, close and monitoring.
  • Lead negotiations with suppliers and contractors as part of a multi-functional team.
  • Offer commercial vetting/review support, and looks for solutions, offer advice.
  • Manage the preparation of contracts / pricing schedule for all types of contracts (T&M, NEC and JCT, and bespoke service level agreements).
  • Manage and create strategic partnerships to leverage the maximum value to ECS.
  • Act as buffer for commercial support between clients and ECS sales and delivery teams.
  • Run monthly reviews with the relevant operational teams.
  • Work with delivery teams to build, substantiate and validate account claims to achieve optimum return.
  • Drive compliance and ensure non-conformances are managed.
  • Drive margin improvement through better and consistent commercial practises.

KPIs OF ROLE

Commercial Management

  • Achievement of all financial targets as detailed above and as may be from time to time amended in accordance with business needs.
  • Ensure all team members understand how to maximise profit and deliver this objective consistently.
  • Act as Commercial support and negotiator in complex sales/delivery, engaging with the senior management team as appropriate.
  • Completing management reporting to include accurate and timely forecasting.

Opportunity Management

  • Dealing with escalations where necessary and transferring issues into opportunities.
  • Continual improvement driven through compliance, corrective actions and preventative measures.

Stakeholder Management

  • Development of team, and/or supply chain, to ensure successful commercial support of the north and national account teams.
  • Ability to create and maintain a working relationship with key stake holders to ensure a high level of trust and partnership

SPECIFIC JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

The successful candidate shall be highly experienced in a commercial role managing and driving outcomes and delivering results in a target-driven and solutions-based organisation within the BMS, energy, property, FM sector(s). They will possess credible experience and expertise with a proven ability to cultivate strong client relationships and results.

These are considered essential for the job together with an indication of other desirable factors if appropriate.

Experience and Qualities:

  • A degree in a commercial or quantity surveying subject
  • Strong financial, commercial and management experience within a quantity surveying department.
  • Detailed experience of tender assessment and negotiations as well as specification writing and contract negotiation.
  • Experience in delivery of multiple and high value projects.
  • Experience third party funding to maximise commercial opportunity and value to the Customer
  • Strong negotiating skills and an understanding of the commercial impact of their activities.
  • Numerical and analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and information and produce it in a clear and logical format.
  • An ability to think strategically about supply chain relationships, to secure the best long-term results for the team.
  • Proven experience of working within a target-driven, engineered solutions orientated environment.
  • Highest levels of competence in listening, verbal and written communications, negotiations, presenting skills.
  • Candidates should ideally have a minimum of five years' experience in a similar role.
  • Have a good existing relationship with contractors, end users and consultants in the area.
