Windows Patch and Deployment Specialist - 2nd Line

Inside IR35

Milton Keynes (Based on a Client site)

A new and exciting opportunity has arisen for a Windows Patch and Deployment Specialist. You will be responsible for the deployment, monitoring and reporting of security patches and software deployments across various customer environments. You will also be expected to use standard patch and deployment tools whilst adhering to associated ITIL disciplines (Change, Release, Incident and Problem management).

This role requires MS SCCM 2012 with exposure to HP Radia desirable. SCCM 2012 will be used for patching and deployment.

You will be expected to work independently in order to transition a new customer into business as usual, providing support using SCCM 2012, and help support the existing HP Radia during this period. (HP Radia experience although desirable is not essential but you will be expected to learn and use this HP Radia) ASAP

Roles & Responsibilities

Communication and reporting - (10%)

  • Liaison with internal ISPs and clients

  • Provide comprehensive reporting of patch and deployment progress against SLA

  • Work as part of a team on larger incidents or problems

  • Pro-actively share technical knowledge and advice with colleagues

  • Produce operational and management information regarding toolset status

Patch and Deployment - (70%)

  • Deliver a standard approach to Windows security patch management and software deployment

  • Ensure SLA attainment through accurate process adherement together with reporting and escalation of failed or pending deployments

  • Pro actively log incidents and /or changes (with CAB representation) to carry out remedial work or repeat deployments

  • Liaise with customer to agree deployment approach and to understand customer risk profile

  • Out of hours overtime may be required to support deployments/patching

Incident / Problem Resolution - (20%)

  • Ensure incidents are logged and tracked to support failed or problem deployments to particular devices

  • Proactively monitor logged incidents or problems to aid justification of SLA status

Key Requirements

More than 3 years experience the following technologies:

  • Microsoft SCCM deployment (2007 onwards)

  • Other patch management toolsets, e.g. WSUS, Bladelogic, HP Radia

  • Microsoft Vista, Windows 7 & Windows 8 operating systems and respective component support

  • Windows Server 2003 / 2008 / 2012 operating systems and respective component support

  • Microsoft Active Directory

  • ITIL disciplines

Knowledge of the following:

  • Security patch management

  • Software deployment

  • Deployment troubleshooting

  • Management and customer reporting

  • Use of service management toolsets such as Remedy


  • Candidates must be willing to use SCCM & RADIA whilst migrations to move of RADIA are completed.

  • Either held or currently holds SC or higher clearances

  • Knowledge / Experience of the following:

  • SQL and VB scripting experience and knowledge

  • SCCM 2012

  • Bladelogic

  • HP Radia
