Main Responsibilities
* Ensuring the department meets Company objectives and production targets
* Reporting to Production Manager and liaising with senior managers and other departments
* Fostering a communicative and collaborative environment within the department
* Promoting a culture of continual improvement of the department regarding quality of work and performance/development of staff
* Ensuring compliance with Company Health and Safety procedures
* Maintaining compliance with other Company systems and procedures
Key Functions
* Organize the department's workload based on the production schedule, and as directed by the Production Manager
* Report to the Production Manager the performance of the department and any issues within the department
* Monitor staff performance and quality of work
* Undertake regular meetings with department staff to discuss workload, performance and issues
* Manage availability of resources, staff and equipment to ensure work is carried out in a safe, timely and efficient manner
* Use of company's MRP system
* Maintain a quality/inspection system within the department. Manage non-conformances in accordance with the company's quality system
* Maintain technical documentation and work instructions to ensure best practice
* Oversee the maintenance of department's equipment and requirements for new equipment
* Perform hands-on tasks within the department to support the department's throughput. Tasks may include assembly, repair, calibration of products and any other tasks as undertaken by department staff
* Oversee the training and development of staff in the department. Carry out appraisals as necessary
* Liaise with Human Resources on personnel issues
* A requirement to undertake other duties as may reasonably be required
Knowledge, Skills & Experience
* Proven experience of supervising and developing a team of engineers within a production environment
* A recognised qualification in electronics with a strong practical emphasis
* Solid background in electronics assembly and knowledge of fault-finding and repair
* Experience of calibration of electro-mechanical equipment. Knowledge of feedback control systems, especially motor control systems
* Fully computer literate; experience with use of MRP systems and Microsoft Office
* Experience of maintaining work instructions and technical documentation
* Demonstrated experience of efficiency management and working within a quality system
* Working knowledge of relevant current Health and Safety best practice * Strong people management skills
* Personal interest in electronics (e.g., as a hobby)
NVQ / HNC / HND in an electronics discipline
