A market-leading manufacturer of innovative optical and photonic products enabling optical networking and commercial laser customers worldwide.
Development and support of custom electronics solutions to enable manufacturing and test of electro-optical components across the company. The job requires a dynamic person to work on the design (hardware and firmware) of data acquisition electronics to be used by the Software Test team to deploy test systems in operations and R&D.
This opportunity would suit someone early in their career wanting to increase their experience in a wide range of design activities and innovative projects.
JOB DUTIES/ RESPONSIBILITIES:
Work in a small team to design, procure and maintain custom instrumentation for the test of optoelectronic devices used across several manufacturing stages from chip, chip-on-carrier, gold-box and module.
Contribute to design and document custom electronics hardware (PCBAs) to enable test, alignment, calibration, burn-in and other manufacturing stages in a cleanroom environment.
The main focus is on the data acquisition electronics equipment to support test automation rather than on the software to implement the actual test stages but some software knowledge is required (e.g. C, C#).
This is a mix of analogue (source-measure circuits) and digital (control) electronics used to drive and measure the performance of electro-optical components.
Improving and maintaining existing electronics solutions to ensure new requirements are met without disrupting production schedule and output targets.
Design and supervise manufacturing (outsourced) of the hardware required to support product ramps without delays.
Education/Qualification - Minimum:
B.Eng/M.Eng in electronics engineering or relevant discipline
Good academic background in microelectronics
Theoretical knowledge and some experience in analog signal conditioning
Some hands-on experience in low-speed digital signals (interfaces like SPI, I2C, UART) and USB
Some hands-on experience in Micro-controllers, firmware and some exposure to FPGAs
Theoretical knowledge and some exposure to mixed signal PCB design (boards with analogue and digital circuits)
Electronics debugging skills
Dynamic hands-on person willing to work on any project
Some exposure to high-speed digital signals (interface like USB 3.0, PCIe, Ethernet, DDR memory)
Some exposure to source-measure DC circuits and power design (current/voltage sources, transimpedance amplifiers, TEC controllers, DACs/ADCs, board power supplies)
Some exposure to SPICE circuit simulation
Some exposure to signal integrity issues
Some experience of C and C#
Some soldering experience
Some electronics layout design experience - not essential
