Family Support Worker

We are looking to appoint a caring, supportive and dedicated Family Support Worker, based in Hackney, to work with our client who provide a range of support to young people who are caring for family members or siblings. As a Family Support Worker you will work with young people and their families to provide practical and emotional support by offering carers some time out to enjoy their hobbies or attend school on a more regular basis.
Support Workers work directly with families to identify what support is needed to help young carers get the most out of their childhood. By working with schools, health professionals and other services in Hackney we also raise awareness of young carers to make sure they get the support and recognistion they need.
Support Workers can work one-to-one with young carers or through group sessions, eg. School-based support groups, homework club, cooking club, trips and holiday activities.
The post holder will need to be flexible and have excellent interpersonal skills in order to work effectively with families and young people from a wide range of backgrounds. A proven ability to engage with young people is also essential, particularly vulnerable young people and families. A good ability to create assessments' and communicate in writing is essential, as is the ability to organise workload and prioritise tasks.
