Infrastructure Engineer

Role Type: Permanent
Location: Bristol - 3-4 Days Per week but flexible
Salary: £35,000 - £67,000 + 10% Bonus

You'll have the following responsibilities

  • Lead and deliver; on premise, private-hybrid cloud, infrastructure and multi-vendor compute solutions.
  • Contribute to design principles, standards and advocate good practices.
  • Be an ambassador for our team and company to our internal and external customers.
  • Identify derived requirements from enterprise solution design and customer requirements.
  • Define and author pre-sales and technical solution designs, Bill of Materials and collateral; implement complex specialist solutions.
  • Provide accountability and ownership throughout technical solution delivery.
  • Manage stakeholder expectations, develop and manage customer relationships, and deliver an outstanding customer experience.


You'll have the following skills & experience:

  • A history of delivering complex solutions on major public industry sectors; Defence (MoD) and/or HM Government departments or agencies.
  • Worked on UK government business propositions and bid proposals.
  • Worked as part of a team and as an individual on complex solutions, working across multiple teams
  • High and low level design, and implementation of: on premise solutions, multi-datacentre private cloud, hardware infrastructure and Compute technologies
  • Communicate designed solution and reasons for decisions within programme, delivery and operational teams, demonstrating commercial awareness and value for money.
  • Manage acceptance into service process for deliverables, engaging with operational teams early on in design process and delivery lifecycle.
  • Datacenter infrastructure of servers and enterprise storage solutions from or similar vendors: Cisco, Dell, HPE, NetApp, Veritas.
  • Datacenter virtualisation: Supported versions of VMware vSphere.
  • Microsoft Operating Systems: Supported versions of Windows Server and Windows desktop.
  • Common Microsoft Windows Server roles and features: ADDS, GPOs, DNS, DHCP, File and Storage Services, DFS Replication, Remote Desktop Services, Web Services, Update Services.
  • Microsoft products: Support versions of SQL Server, Exchange, SharePoint, Teams (experience of one or more).
  • Other products: Agnostic design for backup solutions (CommVault, HPE Data Protector, Veritas Netback, EMC Networker, Veeam).
  • Security hardening standards, resources and methods to address Vulnerabilities and Compliance.
  • A good awareness of network design, topologies and protocols.
  • Hold a vendor professional to advanced level certification and/or proven level of experience.
  • Aptitude to take on and learn new Compute technologies.


Beneficial Knowledge:

  • Knowledge and experience in HMG MoD compliance policies (JSP).
  • A basic knowledge of Microsoft PowerShell scripting.
  • Hybrid Cloud exposure (Azure, AWS, VoC).
  • Linux Operating Systems; Red Hat Enterprise, Oracle Enterprise.
  • SCIDA.
