Role Description:

The primary focus of this role is to advise and assure that the proposed design is conformant with vendor best practice, security enforcement, and the Defence Digital architectural patterns and guidance.

Be able to demonstrable experience in the following:

+ Architecture and development of secure Hardware and Software solutions with successful delivery on complex, large scale programmes utilising emerging technologies where possible.

+ Strong Infrastructure Engineering background with experience working with an Engineering team to ensure compliance.

+ Proven demonstrable experience operating both as a Infrastructure Engineer and Infrastructure Architect

+ Detailed knowledge and understanding of JSP and over-arching HMG policy.

+ Writing technical requirements and producing detailed solution architectures.

+ Designing and implementing secure infrastructure solutions. This includes continuous monitoring and making improvements to those solutions.

+ Consulting and engineering in the development and design of infrastructure best practices and implementation of solid security principles across the project to meet business goals along with customer and regulatory requirements.

+ Rationalising network designs & their alignment against architectural best practice.

Demonstrable experience in the following:

+ Hierarchical IP Subnetting;

+ In-depth understanding of routing protocols, internal and external, OSPF, and BGP.

+ Advanced knowledge of routers, switches and firewalls product lines and vendor licensing models;

Detailed knowledge of core network technologies and infrastructure:

Cisco Nexus;

Cisco IOS XE;

Leaf and Spine network architecture;

VXLAN Overlay networks;

Dual Cloud Dual Hub DMVPN Solutions;

Layer 3 Multicast / PIM;

Firewall IPS/IDS;

AAA Management Platform e.g. ISE;

TRL Crypto

Detailed understanding of all aspects of QOS (Traffic Shaping / Policing / Scheduling / Congestion Management and Avoidance).

At least one of the following professional certifications that have been obtained within the last five years:

  • Networking certification, minimum CCDE (Cisco Certified Design Expert) or similar.

  • Virtualisation certification, VMware VCP-NV (VMware vCenter Certified Professional - Network Virtualisation), VCP-DCV (VCP - Data Centre Virtualisation)

Desirable Skills and Experience:

  • Networking certification, CCIE (Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert).

  • Virtualisation certification, VMware VCDX (VMware Certified Design Expert)

  • Design and configuration of Wide Area Networks, high grade encryption and DSCP traffic management.

  • Military Information Services such as NATO FAS, UK Base Services and MOD Business management apps.

  • Design and configuration of Two Factor Authentication Solutions

  • Automation and Orchestration technologies and principals.

  • Security implementations such as PKI and proxy services in line with MOD Security assurance processes.

  • Delivering in Agile and Waterfall project management environments

  • Experience with the Atlassian Toolset - JIRA, Confluence and BitBucket for delivering Agile based projects.
