Ink Production Engineer
Salary: £35,000 - £55,000
You will have the opportunity to join an expanding team in a growing clean energy organisation. The role is critical in our efforts to continually improve and advance our technology and understanding. Within the inks team, we are responsible for the process engineering activities in the materials manufacturing module for solid oxide fuel cell and electrolyser manufacturing.
Key Accountabilities - Ink Production Engineer
Analyse operational metrics, inline process performance, as well as end of line product performance, and define reaction plans.
Identify opportunities for improvement in all aspects of inks production.
Propose equipment or processes required to improve understanding and performance
Define preventive and corrective actions to eliminate root cause of failures.
Drive SPC charts, tool matching, and yield improvement.
Qualify and release new manufacturing equipment to production.
Develop and sustain processes, operating procedures, and related documentation.
Work in cross-functional teams with Quality, Product Development, and Manufacturing team to develop manufacturing procedures for new generations of technology.
Complete validation requirements to complete process changes under QMS.
Occasional travel to customer or supplier sites may be required
Knowledge and Skills - Ink Production Engineer
MSc or PhD degree in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or Chemistry preferred.
A knowledge of ceramic formulations and catalyst deposition and characterization.
Problem solving methodology applied to process engineering and chemical processes.
Excellent IT skills with the ability to analyse, model and interpret data
Ability to plan work and meet deadlines
Ability to work in an agile environment responding to the needs of the business when required.
Preferred Experience - Ink Production Engineer
Experience in manufacturing environments, with hands-on process engineering, manufacturing engineering, and sustaining experience, both in a process development group and in a mass production environment would be highly advantageous.
Methodical approach to process development with depth in data analysis associated with SPC, DOE, pFMEA, fishbone analysis. Working knowledge of a wide suite of data analysis software (MiniTab, Excel VBA macros, MatLab) is a plus.
Strong mechanical aptitude and demonstrated ability to understand interaction of hardware and process as they affect the final product.
Exposure to both thin film and thick film processing, including subsequent high temperature operations and knowledge of electrochemistry.
Experience manufacturing inks and pastes, and related metrology and characterization.
Development of new manufacturing processes of ink slurries for fuel cells
Development of new characterization methods of inks.
Demonstrated track record of solving manufacturing yield problems.
Experience in ceramic ink formulations, aqueous and non-aqueous.
Experience in tailoring material microstructure to desired cell performance.
Experience in ink preparation techniques (ball-milling, vibro-milling, triple roll milling, others).
Experience in ink application techniques (transfer, spraying, screen/pad printing, others).
Experience with pre-application characterization techniques: rheology, particle size analysis, others.
Experience with post-application characterization techniques: SEM, electrochemical testing, others.
Develop economic and effective manufacturing procedures with scale-up of from lab to manufacturing
Coordination of projects with external suppliers and partners.
Defining new process chains as well as optimization of existing processes in terms of quality, efficiency and customer satisfaction
Demonstrated experience in process engineering in high tech manufacturing, such as semiconductor, hard disk, or solar industries.
