Lead Mechanical Design Engineer - Electronic Assemblies

A global leader in specialised components and subsystems for innovative solutions is looking to recruit a Lead Mechanical Design Engineer whose primary function is to develop and manage a team of skilled engineers/designers.

Key responsibilities -

+ Ensure a highly skilled and competent resource is available to the business, training plans in place, succession planning, new skills being developed, creation of an environment that promotes innovation and out of the box thinking.

+ Develop processes that improve the way information is delivered to the business, invoking best practice.

+ Plan priorities to meet the demands of the business.

+ Mentor apprentices, work experience students and more junior team members on design techniques, tools and work practices.

+ Keeping abreast of the latest developments in the field of Mechanical Design and CAD and applying knowledge to develop new processes that will deliver process improvement.

Skills and qualifications required -

+ Proven experience of leading and managing a technical team of mechanical engineers and design engineers

+ Will be technically and theoretically strong and able to carry out engineering calculations in support of design solutions. Have experience of FEA and CFD simulation to verify complex designs

+ Highly competent level of mechanical engineering and design knowledge and application

+ Experience of electronics packaging, both compact assemblies and large electrical enclosures

+ Highly proficient use and administration of 2D and 3D CAD packages (PTC Creo and AutoCAD)

+ Knowledge and experience of applying design and drawing standards such as BS8888

+ Understand drawing GD&T to a high level

+ Knowledge of material science
