Lead Software Engineer

Location: London

Permanent: ASAP start

Salary: £90,000 (+bonus)

Remote working: Hybrid role (1/2 days in office)

ScienceDirect is the world leader application for viewing academic papers. The CoreServices team in ScienceDirect looks after a number of core activities:

    • Integration with internal Authentication provider
    • Integration with internal Authorisation provider
    • E-commerce for ScienceDirect direct purchase

You will be:

  • Leading a tight-knit, agile, cross-functional quality-focused team to deliver tangible value to our customers
  • Working hands-on to design and evolve our systems
  • Designing, prototyping, and implementing robust applications using best-practice agile development processes
  • Building cloud infrastructure in AWS to host and monitor the applications, automating common tasks
  • Capable of coaching people
  • Undertaking code reviews
  • Capable of drawing up some architecture for a project
  • Be able to pinpoint architecture trade-offs

Requirements:

  • A passionate engineer with exceptional commercial software engineering experience delivering server-side applications
  • Excellent programming skills with Java 8+
  • Comfortable with building distributed systems using different cloud technologies to provide a business service
  • An advocate of agile practices for rapid development of quality software, such as CI, TDD, and continuous deployment
  • Comfortable learning new technologies, languages, and tools on the job, to ensure that the product is not left behind in a rapidly evolving ecosystem
  • An inclusive, positive, collaborative mindset and a desire to deliver real business value to our customers
