Mechanical Team Leader - Aerospace & Defence

What you'll be doing:

  • Prepare project plans, direct a team in their implementation, monitor and report progress and spend against agreed budgets and timescales

  • Meet project reporting requirements such as provision of monthly reports and attendance at weekly reviews

  • Devise and maintain resource plans and ensure allocation of mechanical engineering resources to meet project demands

  • Identify recruitment requirements to ensure forecasted demands for mechanical engineering work can be met, and support the mechanical engineering manager in the recruitment of permanent and contract staff

  • Prepare and implement training and induction plans for new starts, contractors and apprentices working in the mechanical engineering team

  • Coordinate and conduct performance and development reviews

  • Understand and provide governance on the adherence of mechanical team members, and associated project teams to departmental and company policies and procedures

  • Prepare estimates in support of new bids, and support the generation of proposal development and documentation

  • Coaching & developing the skills of your team members

  • Working with other disciplines within an integrated team to optimise solutions and minimise impacts from dependencies

  • Adopting an innovative approach to design and identifying improvements to working practices

Your skills and experiences:

  • Mechanical engineering background

  • Experience in managing individual and team performance and supporting the professional development of staff

  • Able to demonstrate experience leading product development teams through the engineering development lifecycle, from concept through to production, including solving problems using new technologies and innovations for complex engineering systems

  • Experience of project planning and execution and in creating and understanding estimates
