Principal Engineer - Structural Engineering

Would you like to work directly on a brand new naval submarine contract alongside working on the existing design and build contracts?

As a Principal Engineer - Structures, you will be supporting the existing programmes and also starting to work on future submarine contracts with various development options. The role requires working in multi-functional teams to determine the best integrated solutions, and engagement with other industrial partners and specialist resources to agree technical requirements, methodologies and acceptance criteria for the development of future options

This role will provide you with the opportunity to develop your specialised structural knowledge and well as working on new exciting projects.

Your main responsibilities as a Principal Engineer - Structures will involve:

  • Lead the development and justification of structural design and analysis on existing and future submarine contracts.

  • Lead engagement with the wider programme teams and business partners to ensure that structural requirements are achieved, and appropriately balanced with other stakeholder requirements. Including, liaising with industrial partners and the UK MoD to coordinate technical development and research activities, or define/influence design requirements, methods and acceptance criterion.

  • Progress reporting, including the identification of relevant issues, risks and opportunities. This includes input to the Project integrated plan.

  • Provide realistic programme status, identify problem areas and implement agreed recovery plans.

  • Undertake detailed peer review and checking / verification as required.

  • Confirm beyond reasonable doubt, by review, surveillance and audit, that those assumptions underpinning engineering data, analysis methodologies, and interpretation of results have been validated.

  • Produce evidence in support of qualification, legislative requirements and safety justifications and provide specialist support for associated activities.

  • Development of detailed process documentation (Maps, Instructions, Forms etc.) as appropriate.

Your skills and qualifications:

Essential

  • Degree qualified in STEM or relevant

  • Demonstrable experience in stakeholder engagement

  • Demonstrable experience within structural engineering and stress analysis

  • Knowledge of Stress Analysis Calculations including Finite Element Analysis of structural solutions and mechanical components.

Desirable

  • Demonstrable experience of mechanical engineering principles and practices

  • PM qualification ILM
