Join a market-leading manufacturer of innovative optical and photonic products enabling optical networking and commercial laser customers worldwide. The clients optical components and subsystems are part of virtually every type of telecom, enterprise, and data center network.
Knowledgeable engineer with experience of optical and electronic design and verification. Will join a product R&D team and contribute to the development of new components and modules for next generation optical transmission systems. The role will involve input to the design and build of the products, verification of prototype performance against customer specifications and liaising with NPI and manufacturing teams to introduce the product to manufacture. Development of R&D test platforms and measurement automation will also be a requirement. The individual will work closely with other members of the design team, including optical and electronic engineers, test and process development engineers and the product qualification team to deliver cost effective product solutions in a timely manner.
Part of team responsible for the design of optical transceiver at 400 Gb/s line rate.
Work with hardware, firmware and test teams during integration phase to bring up product
Definition and build of R&D test platforms and creation of test scripts
Design verification testing and characterization of optical transceivers in alpha and beta phase of development, and creation of test reports.
Support qualification activities
Define production test algorithms, limits and architecture in conjunction with test SW/HW team for use in manufacture
Support to NPI and manufacturing teams to launch into manufacture at Lumentum and Contract manufacturing sites.
Data mining and analysis of production test data
Interact with internal design engineers, broader R&D team in San Jose and external vendors
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
Education/Qualification - Minimum:
Honours degree or equivalent in physics, optics, electronics or equivalent technical discipline
5 years relevant industrial experience ideally within the Telecommunications, Electronics or Defence area.
Optical Communication systems, components and design
Analogue and digital design knowledge
Practical measurement techniques, data correlation and results analysis
Methodical approach to problem solving
Ability to generate specifications and reports to a high standard
Familiarity with the use of software to automate laboratory measurements
Organised and effective communications with ability to articulate to other
Design / Process development for high volume manufacture
