Production Engineer
Salary: flexible dependent on experience
Location: West Sussex
The role;
A medical devices manufacturer is now hiring for a Production Engineer to join their Product Support team.
Due increasing business demands, business growth and a long-term employee's upcoming retirement, an additional Production Engineer is required within the manufacturing department.
As the Production Engineer, also referred to as Manufacturing Engineer, your role is to improve the efficiency and reliability of products and processes utilised in manufacturing, both in existing manufacturing process and the production processes of new products.
You will work closely with fellow engineering experts at all stages of the lifecycle from idea conception and design through to post-manufacture test and quality assessment, to ensure products (both existing and new) meet design for manufacture, design for reliability and cost targets whilst ensuring a timely and effective new manufacturing process.
Duties and responsibilities include;
Creating and maintaining build instructions, process FMEA's, routings, packing specifications, standard times, tooling and line layouts. Managing the implementation of engineering changes in a timely and efficient manner.
Resolving general day-to-day manufacturing and field issues. Where appropriate, collating and analysing data and liaising with other departments to resolve complex issues.
Lead role in driving Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement initiatives, identifying opportunities for improvement and leading teams to implement robust changes.
Supporting R&D development activity, providing DFM expertise, overseeing and documenting pre-production builds, producing justifications for new equipment and facilitating a seamless introduction of new products into production. Providing technical support to projects in other areas of the business as and when required.
Supporting Purchasing and SQA with resolving Supplier technical issues; managing tooling changes and implementation of engineering change in the supply chain.
Working Hours;
Working hours are 7.30am - 4pm Monday to Thursday and 7.30am - 1pm on Friday (there is some flexibility in these hours as long as you are working your contracted 37.5hrs/week).
There is some flexibility to work from home (e.g. 1 day per week) however as this is a production role the expectation is you will be on site the majority of the time.

Skills and experience required to apply;
Either a formal engineering qualification with 2 years post qualification experience as a Production Engineer or Manufacturing Engineer, or no formal qualification with a minimum of 5 years' experience as a Production Engineer or Manufacturing Engineer.
Practical experience of continuous improvement e.g. lean methodologies, 5S, Kanban, single piece flow.
Practical experience of managing engineering change.
Design for manufacture experience (for example new product introductions, working with design teams, identifying areas for improving design for manufacture, working with suppliers to introduce new components etc.).
