Salary: £45-£60k per annum

The Role:

The Test Development Engineer will be responsible for designing test solutions to characterise and validate optoelectronic components. The role is multi-disciplinary with a software foundation, and covers skills such as semiconductor device physics, test hardware, instrumentation, and data analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Design automated test equipment to characterise optoelectronic components.

  • Develop new test concepts including optical and electrical tests and implement them into mass production.

  • Create solutions that both meet the quality criteria (Specification, Repeatability, and Accuracy) and maximize capital efficiency.

  • Collaberate with cross functional teams in chip R&D, product design and manufacturing to ensure products can meet DFM/DFT criteria.

  • Own the test development for a new product from R&D to volume. Transfer test capabilities from R&D into volume manufacturing.

  • Drive improvements to test systems/processes using Kaizen methodologies.

  • Analyse test data to drive yield and process improvements.

  • Part of the role will be in a cleanroom environment. Manufacturing is worldwide and international travelling will be required from time to time.

ESSENTIAL REQUIRMENTS:

  • The successful candidate will a have Bachelor /Master's Degree in in Electronic Engineering, Physics, Computer Science or related discipline with strong software content.

  • Proficiency in software programming for test and automation using C# or another text based language.

  • Understanding of electronic devices and circuits.

  • Excellent communication, teamwork and presentation skills are essential.

  • The ability to successfully work in a deadline driven, production environment is required.

ADVANTAGOUS REQUIRMENTS:

  • Understanding data analysis and mathematical modelling e.g. using Matlab.

  • Understanding of statistical process control for example using JMP, Minitab or equivalent and design of experiments.

  • Understanding of Gauge R&R analysis of measurement systems.

  • Understanding of optical devices, communications and transmission.

  • Previous experience of working with semi-conductors and/or in a semi-conductor fabrication facility.
