+ £51,000 to £67,000 per annum

The role:

Leading the software development team responsible for development of automated test solutions for testing optoelectronic modules. This covers the majority of the software development lifecycle and when the test solution is mature enough you will support the transfer to operations.


  • Lead test software development team consisting of 6 software engineers

  • Design, develop, implement, debug and transfer to manufacturing robust, cost effective and efficient test solutions

  • Collaborate with product development teams to ensure that custom test hardware is defined and delivered on time and to cost

  • Define, promote and implement best software development working practices across the company

  • Provide technical leadership of software

  • Product owner of software test solutions and accountable for timely delivery

  • Backlog refinement and prioritization in conjunction with stakeholders

  • Train and mentor junior engineers

  • Resource planning and objective setting

Education/Qualification - Minimum:

  • Degree in relevant engineering, physics or optics discipline

    Skills/Competencies Essential:

  • Leadership role in software development

  • C#.NET expert (must have been lead developer or similar previously)

  • Object oriented programming, inheritance, interfaces

  • Source control (e.g. Git, BitBucket)

  • Static analysis and unit testing

  • Familiarity with test instrumentation (e.g. PSU, DMM, OSA, oscilloscope)

  • GPIB, RS232, USB, Ethernet communication protocols

  • Ability to follow a simple circuit diagram or equipment schematic

Skills/Competencies Desirable:

  • Additional programming languages (Python, C++, Visual Basic, etc.)

  • Design patterns

  • I2C, MDIO, PCI communication protocols
