The Opportunity:

We are looking to recruit a seasoned Solutions Architect who wishes to broaden their experience in Big Data, Machine Learning and DevOps in a complex and sensitive intelligence environment.

This Solutions Architect will apply expert skills to understand evolving customer requirements, identify credible technology solutions in the market and provide the detailed architectural artefacts necessary to secure the business and assure that technical solutions meet customer requirements. In this role, working alongside an Infrastructure Architect, you will set the technical direction for the engineering delivery team.

The normal place of work will be the centre of London, although around 50% home working will be possible.

Job Description:

  • Provide specialist input into multiple projects to help ensure the delivery of a technically sound solution meeting all stakeholder requirements

  • Instigate the undertaking of original research and/or technology/process/tool development to enhance the knowledge base of the Business Unit and the wider Company to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the Engineering Unit

  • Track external developments and disruptive technologies to identify exploitation and knowledge sharing opportunities to support current and planned business

  • Maintain a peer network and make significant contribution to external communities of interest to enable the delivery of integrated capabilities

  • Provide and manage specialist input to the tech roadmap of the business, as well as to Engineering Unit Strategy and the Division

  • Contribute to the wider business by:

  • Managing the implementation of technology reuse across other business units within the Division

  • Act as a coach and mentor to others

  • Act as a Product Design Review chair for areas within the Engineering Unit and other Business Units within the Division

Mandatory:

  • DV Clearance to gain access to site

  • Work experience of performing a senior systems engineering and technical/solutions architecture role;

  • Particular experience of COTS application integration onto distributed or private cloud infrastructure services

  • Exposure to machine learning techniques and the development of environments for management of and analysis of Big Data.

  • Detailed requirements analysis and solution design experience;

  • Excellent people skills including team leadership and stakeholder engagement;

  • Excellent documentation skills including initial development/production and document maintenance.

Highly Desirable:

  • Experience working within secure environments and with higher classified systems;

  • Experience of MOD working practices and associated standards and policies;

  • Experience of developing Software as a Service solutions

  • Experience with Secure DevOps within an Agile /SAFe environment;

  • Experience of architecture frameworks and architecture modelling e.g. TOGAF and Archimate.

Qualifications:

  • Higher education approved STEM qualification at first degree level as a minimum or equivalent as recognised by professional accreditation schemes

  • Typically post-graduate qualification (most likely MEng, MSc or PhD) in relevant specialist area desirable.
