Job Description

The Solutions Architect role forms a key part of the Mortgages & Core delivery stream, responsible for driving the future direction of the technology platform through the roadmap management, architectural design and delivery oversight of change initiatives.

This position plays a pivotal part in enabling the business to achieve its strategic goals, providing insight, foresight and oversight on our business and technology environment, creating opportunities for increased agility, innovation and automation. As such, the solutions architect is expected to ensure alignment of the delivery stream initiatives to the enterprise strategy, roadmap and standards.

As part of the wider architecture practice, this role is also responsible for developing and promoting standardisation, best practice and continuous improvement across the architecture community.

Key accountabilities

  • Promote understanding of the current estate through the provision of quality, standardised documentation

  • Optimise change activity through the identification and assessment of options for satisfying, driving outcome-based decision making

  • Define the target architecture and transition states for change initiatives, covering data, applications, and infrastructure

  • Assure the delivery of change initiatives, ensuring alignment to business and technology strategy, principles and standards and conformance with architecture designs and reference models

  • Contribute management of the delivery stream roadmap, ensuring alignment to the wider transformation roadmap

  • Manage risk within the business's technical estate, driving activity to consolidate, retire and replace technologies where appropriate

  • Drive innovation through the monitoring, investigation and incubation of emerging technologies and business practices

  • Simplify and accelerate change through the creation and promotion of reference architectures and reusable patterns

Required Skills

  • Experience of architecture frameworks (ideally TOGAF)

  • Excellent stakeholder management skills across all levels of the business

  • A broad technological understanding of technology stacks, frameworks, design patterns and architectural strategies

  • Ability to quickly analyse and communicate the implications of developing new functionality in terms of impact, risk, time and cost

  • Experience in designing robust scalable solutions incorporating multiple applications and data sources

  • Ability to construct and deconstruct complex systems to provide relevant information to stakeholders with different concerns

  • Experience in architecture design

  • Experience in the full change lifecycle
