Job Description & Skills

This role requires a versatile System Engineer to work closely with the Lead System Engineer, Chief Engineer, the Engineering manager and Development team. This position is suited to a self-motivated Engineer having experience working on large complex programmes in the EW/Communications domain.

Candidates with a good understanding of Open Architecture communication solutions and having direct experience with Land CEMA (Cyber and Electromagnetic Activities) integration projects is being sought for this position.

The successful candidate will be based at our Basildon or Southampton sites and will have the opportunity to work within a diverse and exciting growth area.

Key Responsibility Areas

Working with the Lead Systems Engineer and supported by a team of experienced engineers, you will be responsible for:

  • Developing Requirement specification, architectural design, and verification and validation of associated systems.

  • Accountable for the Open VPX based network design for a field deployable Land EW system

  • Developing and applying your knowledge of systems engineering to undertake and support various tasks and activities across the lifecycle, delivering to agreed performance targets within cost and schedule.

  • Working closely with Software, Firmware and Hardware engineers to manage design changes and solve problems on complex systems.

  • Completing tasks in accordance with appropriate processes and procedures to a high standard.

  • Technical statement of work preparation

  • Use technical expertise to solve problems, generate ideas and be pro-active within the IPT.

  • Development of communication solutions across Ethernet and RF based systems

Skills, Qualifications & Knowledge Required


  • Demonstrable experience of the systems engineering lifecycle, including requirements management, system design process including system and sub-system specification, and product verification and validation

  • Experience of working with DOORS requirements engineering tools

  • Ability to work within large teams and taking the lead for specific areas

  • Experience working with Open Architectures

  • Experience of VPX / Open VPX solutions.

  • Awareness of Land CEMA Architecture (LCA) and Open CPI

  • Ability to analyse Data Payloads with consideration for Information Assurance

  • Ability to produce clear and concise technical documentation

  • Experience of design governance and design integrity processes


  • Knowledge of technology and techniques deployed in ES/EA/ECM Products.

  • Experience with modeling tools such as MATLAB and Simulink.

  • Experience of projects operating Agile methodologies
