What is Security Clearance?
National Security Vetting is carried out so that people can work on commercial tasks and projects which require national security clearance. Government organisations and businesses in specific private sectors such as Defence, IT, Aviation and Nuclear are always on the hunt for Security Cleared personnel.
Security Clearance levels vary depending on the sensitivity of the type of information that is accessed, but for further details on levels of clearance available, as well as DBS checks, please click on the following links.
How to obtain Security Clearance
You cannot apply for Security Clearance as an individual or through an employer or agency. Clearance is requested by an employer and carried out by appointed Government agencies. Security Clearance is granted for a specific period of time depending on the employment term or for a particular project.
Security Clearance can be verified and transferred to a new employer if required. If you do not have the Security Clearance required for a particular role you would not be able to start your employment until clearance has been obtained.
You do not have to be a British National in order to gain UK Security Clearance, but you will have to meet strict criteria depending on the level of clearance required.

for further details.
Please take some time to visit the UK government website for any further information on acquiring appropriate security clearances
Why does the MOD insist on having sponsors for security clearances, why can't I apply directly?
A security clearance provides a certain level of assurance at a point in
time as to an individual's suitability to have trusted access to
sensitive information. It does not provide a guarantee of future
reliability and all security clearances are kept under review to ensure
that the necessary level of assurance is maintained. This review is
carried out by Government Departments and Government-sponsored
contractors, who are responsible for the oversight and aftercare of
individuals granted a security clearance.
