Manufacturing Engineer - Cambridge, Cambridgeshire

An exciting position has been created for a Manufacturing Engineer who can demonstrate a strong electrical engineering understanding. You would be working for one of the largest optical electronics and manufacturing organisations in the UK with a global customer base. Operating across a variety of different industries - the manufacturing engineer will be working with exceptional and highly motivated colleagues with the opportunity to advance their career and make a name for themselves internally.

As a manufacturing engineer you will be expected to manage new product introduction along with providing production support for specific products/group of products to meet customer design specifications. Develop and sustain process improvements to reduce production cost and increase yield.

Main responsibilities:

  • New production introduction

  • Assisting in quotations

  • Production support

  • Engineering change process

  • Process improvement

  • Quality support

  • Basic design support

Skills needed:

  • Educated to minimum ONC/A Level in physics, electronics or related discipline. High grade GCSE's or equivilant in Technology or IT, Maths and English. Proven experience in a similar role within an electronics manufacturing environment; proven experience in a similar role within an electronics manufacturing environment.

  • Electronics component knowledge to enable proficient selection of components during the creation of a bill of materials

  • Knowledge of SMT, through-hole and mechanical assembly processes sufficiently to be able to produce documentation for a full turnkey product.

  • Experience of manufacturing equipment used in the assembly PCBA's. SMT Placement machines, AOI, Selective / Wave soldering etc.

  • Experience of designing assembly jigs and fixtures.

  • Familiarity with IPC-A-610 assembly standards

  • Awareness of design for manufacture for electro-mechanical assemblies.

  • Awareness of circuit board test processes and APQP techniques such as FMEA.
