Meet Luke Gibbons – Expanding CBSbutler’s US Engineering Reach
We caught up with Luke, our newest addition to the CBSbutler team, to learn more about his background, sector insights, and plans to grow our Industrial Automation and Process Control presence across the US.
Tell us about your background and experience.
I come from a sporting background and was previously a Group Sales Manager at Nuffield Health. Like many, I fell into recruitment after the pandemic – thanks to a timely call from a recruiter. Since then, I’ve specialised in Engineering and Manufacturing recruitment, focusing on Automation and Med-Tech sectors across the UK, Ireland, and Europe.
What is your remit at CBSbutler?
With a strong foundation in STEM engineering recruitment, I’m now focused on expanding CBSbutler’s footprint in the US, specifically in the Industrial Automation and Process Control space. It’s an exciting opportunity to connect cutting-edge businesses with top-tier engineering talent in a rapidly evolving market.
What drew you to join CBSbutler?
A few things stood out:
- The global reputation CBSButler has in engineering recruitment
- The professionalism of the team and their consultative approach
- And the chance to be involved in some truly exciting international projects
It felt like the right environment to push boundaries and deliver value on a bigger scale.
What is your prediction for your sector in 2026?
We’re seeing a shift towards multi-disciplinary engineers – those who can combine hands-on expertise with strategic thinking. But unlike broader tech markets, the return to on-site work is accelerating in automation and process environments.
These sectors rely on hard physical systems, validated processes, and strict regulatory compliance, so fully remote models just don’t translate well. By 2026, I think we’ll see a more standardised return to plant-based and hybrid work – with higher expectations around flexibility and physical presence.
What has been the biggest hiring shift you’ve seen this year?
There’s been a real change on both sides of the table.
- Clients are being more selective, seeking candidates who can roll up their sleeves in the plant and contribute strategically to process improvement.
- Candidates, meanwhile, are looking for stability, innovation, investment, and roles where they’re not just firefighting.
And across the board, on-site working is once again becoming the default.
What’s one thing clients often underestimate when recruiting in your space?
Speed. It really is the key to success. Too often, businesses lose exceptional candidates due to overly drawn-out processes. A streamlined approach — with clear expectations and defined timelines — makes a big difference. When you move decisively, top talent notices.
Tell us something people might not expect about you.
I’m a family man, a self-confessed coffee snob, a fitness fanatic, and a big foodie. Outside of work, you’ll usually find me at the gym or exploring a new brunch spot.
