An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Data Engineer to join a high-profile government programme focused on improving fraud prevention and risk assessment. You'll play a key role in delivering innovative data solutions that support critical public services, working as part of a newly formed Agile Scrum team responsible for developing data ingestion and risking capabilities within a modern SAS platform.

This is an opportunity to work on a complex, large-scale data transformation programme, integrating multiple data sources and building robust ETL solutions that enable advanced analytics and risk modelling.

The Role

As a Data Engineer, you'll be responsible for designing, building and deploying scalable data integration and transformation solutions. Working closely with technical and business stakeholders, you'll help deliver high-quality data pipelines that support analytics, reporting and risk assessment capabilities.

You'll contribute to the full software development lifecycle, champion Agile ways of working, and help drive DevOps best practices while ensuring data quality, governance and security remain at the forefront.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop and deploy data integration and ETL solutions.
  • Build scalable data pipelines supporting analytics and business intelligence platforms.
  • Develop solutions using Pentaho, Talend, Denodo and SAS technologies.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define technical solutions and deliver against business requirements.
  • Contribute to Agile ceremonies and Sprint delivery.
  • Support CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.
  • Mentor junior team members and promote engineering best practice.
  • Troubleshoot complex data issues and optimise system performance.
  • Ensure data governance, quality and security standards are maintained.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Strong experience with Pentaho and Talend ETL development.
  • Experience with Denodo data virtualisation.
  • Hands-on experience with SAS 9.4 DI and/or SAS Viya 3.x (SAS Studio, Visual Analytics, Visual Investigator).
  • Strong SQL development and data modelling skills.
  • Experience using Git version control.
  • Knowledge of Agile and Scrum delivery methodologies.
  • Experience with DevOps tools and practices such as Jenkins, Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Excellent analytical, troubleshooting and communication skills.

Desirable

  • Oracle database experience.
  • Experience supporting Platform LSF environments.
  • Jira experience.
  • Agile, Scrum or DevOps certifications.
  • Experience working on large-scale government or highly regulated data programmes.
