Job
Test & Calibration Technician - Durham
Test & Calibration Technician- Medical Equipment Calibration
Location: Durham and surrounding areas
Salary: £29,000 + bonus + van + benefits
Are you an engineer looking to break into the medical sector - without already having medical experience?
We're recruiting on behalf of a well-established, third-party engineering company that is the UK market leader in testing and calibrating primary care medical equipment. They support GP surgeries, community rehab facilities, care homes and some hospitals by ensuring essential devices are safe, accurate and compliant.
Importantly, this is not a repair role. You'll be responsible for testing and calibrating low-risk medical equipment such as:
- Defibrillators
- Thermometers
- Medical weighing scales
- Pulse oximeters
- Other primary care diagnostic devices
The Role
You'll travel to customer sites across Durham and surrounding areas, carrying out planned testing and calibration work. This is a customer-facing position, so professionalism and communication skills are just as important as technical ability.
- Working hours: 37.5hrs per week, typically 08:00 - 15:30 (on-site hours)
- No overtime expectation (rare Saturday work only if required)
- Occasional staying away (hotel and expenses covered, plus additional allowance)
You will manage your schedule effectively and maintain positive customer relationships, including rebooking annual visits.
What We're Looking For
- Engineering experience in the UK (minimum 1 year preferred)
- Strong junior engineers (6+ months) considered if technically capable and motivated
- Comfortable in a field-based role or able to demonstrate willingness to travel
- Customer-facing experience (in person or remote support)
- Physically fit - role involves pushing/pulling a trolley with up to 150kg test weights
- Personality is key. The business values motivated, hardworking engineers with strong people skills and a willingness to learn.
Package
- £29,000 basic salary
- Monthly goodwill bonus
- 24 days holiday rising to 27 after 5 years + bank holidays
- Staying away allowance plus hotel and expenses covered
If you're technically minded, hands-on, and looking to build a long-term career in a stable and growing medical engineering business, this is a strong opportunity to enter a specialist sector with genuine progression.
