Role overview
Working predominantly in Wintel environments, this role will see you take responsibility for the 2nd line maintenance/support of MS windows servers and desktop OS, including associated applications. You will also be responsible for resolving incidents and implementing changes under the guidance and leadership of team leads and Project managers.

Key responsibilities

  • Apply Operating System patches
  • Liaise with members of the client community to resolve technical incidents, problems and issues or provide desk-side support as required
  • Low level administration of Active Directory objects
  • Building Microsoft Windows based Servers and clients using the Microsoft suite of deployment tools
  • Updating and administration of changes to Configuration Items (CI)
  • Carry out preventative maintenance and monitoring using the appropriate tooling
  • Work in a disciplined and structured manner in accordance with ITIL V3 based service management processes
  • Attend client facing meetings as required
  • Manage all customer issues through the proper escalation channels

Essential skills

  • Must be able to demonstrate an understanding of Microsoft Window Server and Desktop Operating systems, including: Window Server 2012 R2 & 2016 and Window 7, 64bit & Windows 10
  • Possess an understanding of User Management in Microsoft Active Directory
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Hyper-V virtualisation and virtual machine management
  • An understanding of PowerShell scripting
  • A general understanding of IP and Name Services (DNS / DHCP)
  • A general understanding of networking components, technologies and terminology
  • Strong communication, troubleshooting and analytical skills
  • Customer service skills, focused upon meeting customer needs
  • Knowledge and experience with ITSM/ITIL V3 Reference model
  • A willingness to join the on-call rota following a period of familiarisation

Desirable skills

  • MCP, MCSA or MCSE in Windows Server 2012 or later
  • Experience of Microsoft System Centre tools; including, SCCM, SCVMM and SCOM
  • In-depth Knowledge of PowerShell
  • Familiarity with disaster recover techniques and backup products
  • An understanding of Enterprise Endpoint Security products such as: Anti-Virus and Application & Device Control products
