Data Scientist: You will support an Agile development project which is building bespoke algorithms and applications for a Defence customer. The project aims to provide technical support to the clients' innovation and data science capability, as part of a growing programme of work relating to artificial intelligence, algorithm development and machine learning.

Essential skills

  • Mathematics (ideally degree level or above in STEM subject, or equivalent)
  • Experience of Python programming language
  • Exposure to some or all of the following Python libraries: Numpy, Pandas, Scikit-learn
  • Experience of ingesting, processing & cleaning large datasets
  • Experience of producing analytical reports and drawing insights from large datasets, particularly for a non-technical audience

Desirable

  • Experience of machine learning algorithms:
  • Supervised techniques (e.g. Random Forest, XGBoost, Neural Networks)
  • Unsupervised techniques (e.g. Clustering algorithms; K-Means, DBSCAN)
  • Exposure to one or more of Keras, Tensorflow, PyTorch
  • Basic statistical knowledge; e.g. normal distribution, correlation
  • Exposure to Big Data platforms: e.g. Apache HDFS, Spark, Hive
  • Basic experience of writing efficient SQL queries
  • Awareness of modern data visualisation techniques
