Safety Engineer

Safety Engineer - Surrey - up to £60,000

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an experienced Systems Safety Engineer on a long term project for an industry leader within the Defence, Maritime and Aerospace arena. You will be given autonomy to carry out safety engineering analysis of control systems as part of an overall BS EN 61508 design safety process.

The Safety Engineer will work on an exciting and cutting edge project within their Maritime Defence division. Working on complex ship machinery control systems you will be responsible for safety requirements capture and negotiation. Ideally you will need to have experience working in a safety critical environment such as Maritime, Defence or Aerospace.

Your Duties:

• Carry out functional safety activities with both internal and customer design teams

• Provide support to Engineering teams on safety related design topics

• Work with Safety Managers to provide evidence for design safety assurance

Skills / Knowledge:

• Previous experience of working in a Safety related engineering environment

• Understanding of demonstration of compliance to international standards and client specifications

• Ability to understand hardware and software failure modes, causes and effects

• Experience in some areas safety/reliability analysis techniques: hazard identification and analysis, FMECA, FTA, Reliability Block Diagrams

• Familiarity with the formal safety requirements of BS EN 61508 and SIL analysis

• Degree, HND, HNC in Electrical/Electronic/Control/Software/Systems Engineering or related discipline
