Senior Mechanical Engineer

Location: Hayes, Middlesex

Salary: £40,000 - £50,000

A global organisation specialising in the design and manufacture high power electronic and microwave systems are looking to recruit a Senior Mechanical Engineer.

You will be responsible for the integrity of their design and be required to work with the lead electrical engineer to define a mechanical assembly to securely accommodate the electronic components within the specified environment.

Responsibilities - Senior Mechanical Engineer

  • To design and develop mechanical solutions to incorporating products for rugged military environments.

  • To evaluate design requirements and develop mechanical designs meeting all aspects of the specification

  • Liaise from concept through NPI process to required completion with electronics team, production engineering and operations

  • Support bid proposals for cost estimating and feasibility design reviews

  • Full consideration of component tolerances to ensure consistent cost-effective manufacture.

  • To analyse the effects of heat, vibration, shock and acceleration to ensure the design performs as specified under all conditions.

  • To analyse and resolve mechanical, thermal, interface, drawing and process problems on products as required.

  • To investigate and solve mechanical production problems concerning jigs and tooling.

  • To liaise with Quality Assurance on the resolution of problems during inspection stages.

  • To update drawings, Bills of Materials, MRI and other relevant documentation as required.

  • Technical authority for mechanical design on allocated projects

Experience and Qualifications - Senior Mechanical Engineer

  • Degree level relevant qualification in Mechanical engineering or equivalent via apprenticeship scheme

  • Demonstrated experience of mechanical design for rugged military and commercial environments

  • Understanding of thermal analysis and design

  • Design for Manufacture and Assembly competency

  • Use of NX/Teamcenter packages or similar

  • Familiar with New Product Introduction gate structure and requirements

  • Material and process knowledge within a vacuum technology product platform and electronics integration packaging

  • Driving development to cost and time.
